Perhaps one of the simplest yet effective methods for improving one’s writing is to read your work into a recorder. Your ear will catch things you wouldn’t believe.

On that same note, printing out your work is also very effective. It is a different medium and so looks fresh to your eyes making them more sensitive to flaws. The same is true of the Kindle or Nook with the added bonus that since these are formats you likely will sell in, you’ll get an appreciation for how your work comes across on them.
