About Author Richard P. Nixon

Fled Libya in wake of '67 Six Day War. "Uncle Mo" eventually seized power - two years later on my birthday. Grew up mostly American, with some "old world" quirks. Have been writing since around 1994, but didn't really start writing until 2008. Between 1976 and 1983 spent my time between boarding school (Ireland, Northern Ireland and England) and Alaska (until 1978) and then Saudi Arabia. Came back to the States in '83 and have been in Arizona since '95. Have a nice day. ;)

The Labyrinth

I recently watched Hulu’s “Looking for Alaska” based on the book by John Green. I’d been holding off because I didn’t have a subscription and buying the episodes seemed pricey for something I was hesitant about in this day and … Continue reading

What’s In a Name?

Memoir is supposed to be absolutely true, and yet sometimes it is necessary to change details to protect the innocent and guilty alike. The question that often comes up is just how much do we change? When does the blurring … Continue reading

Oh, What To Do, What To Do?

Over the Hills and Far Away

I looked forward to going to boarding school. For me it meant a plane trip, and being a fanatic about airplanes, I was excited to go. I didn’t think of Ireland as a strange place full of strangers. I’d been … Continue reading

As Silly As This Is

I look pretty silly in this picture. Sure, I was a kid about 11 and had little choice in style or dress, and on this occasion I can only presume I was being forced to go to church. But the … Continue reading

Warp Speed Ahead

My work area has been more a gathering place for clutter than anything else. So I decided to do something about it. With a piece of Melamine, a new circular saw, and some determination, I created a new work surface … Continue reading

When *DID* I First Visit Portora?

In writing an article for my memoir, I suddenly am wondering when, exactly, did I first step foot in Portora Royal? My older brother, Roger, went to Dungannon Royal for a short time in 1970, but somewhere along the line … Continue reading

Fresh Thinking

The other day I talked about how sometimes it’s best to start anew rather than keep beating the old hoping for a different result. I did just that when I took two telescopes and my computerized mount up to Forest … Continue reading

Light in the Dark

Sometimes you find the best clarity and beauty in the darkness. It’s not about light but the kind of light, and what you do with it. All too often what matters most gets lost in the background, and at some … Continue reading
