Experts say you should be building your platform. I whole-heartedly agree, but it's not as easy as it sounds.

Platform is all about appealing to other people and convincing them that you are worth their time and money (perhaps more than the next author). So focus on what makes you worth more to other people. For example you may have a sad story you want to share, and there's a market in those who like to read sad stories. However, a sad story with ultimate triumph will likely appeal to a larger audience because they’ll relate to your hardship and, more importantly, want to know how you resolved it so they may use your advice to resolve their own.
