Writing seems so simple - you just throw words on a page one after the other and eventually you’ll have a whole book. The truth is that words have to be strung together in such a way as to make the greatest impact of the right kind. Why do you like one book and not another similar one? Which one do you want to more closely emulate?

To write you must also read, for reading shows you how to do things right and wrong. And yes, sometimes you’ll have to force your way through the crap - that’s all part of the process.
