Today, I am reminded of an anniversary. Virginia Yvonne Sanchez was a nurse\u2019s aide. She devoted her time to helping others. Fifteen years ago, April 16, 2008, she was murdered. She was 23.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In 2010, her killer, who I will not name, pleaded guilty to a lesser charge in exchange for his plea, was sentenced to fifteen to nineteen years in jail. He offered no reason, no excuses. He squeezed the life out of a young wife and mother and merely said it was the worst mistake he\u2019d ever made. He was released yesterday. By my math, that was two years early, but what do I know?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He will not be deported. Why? I have no idea. Authorities say he is being \u201csupervised,\u201d whatever that means. I suppose if he commits another crime, he\u2019ll be \u201cknown to the authorities.\u201d Well, that brings no comfort to those he hurt, who are forever changed. Hopefully he is a changed person.
