Over the Hills and Far Away

I must be about done with the book. I’m feeling nervous now, thinking about the marketing part and the future.

Over the Hills and Far Away

After adding a couple of nuggets, I talked with a fellow involved in one of the nuggets and was able to flesh it out that much more. That spurred me on to flesh out some other details. Upon reflection I decided the new stuff seemed to unbalance the draft, so I set about working on resequencing.

Heading into the final stretch of preliminary work. I’ve added a couple of small nuggets between yesterday and today. There might be some other small details lurking but nothing really major. My energy level is a little lower than it was but I think this is because I’m so near the end.

I’ve selected a series of photographs for inclusion in the manuscript. I don’t expect all of them to make the final print but one never knows.

It’s always exciting when I remember a nugget. Such is the case with the CB radio being used to set up a rendezvous down at the Lakeland Forum. I’m adding that to the manuscript now.

Finally got in contact with Paul Wickert (Pierrepont). Look forward to his followup.

More tweaking – this time adding some detail recovered from letters home and letters to me, circa 1978.

Over the Hills and Far Away

It’s funny – I’ve been working on this manuscript for less than a year now with great enthusiasm. Each time I’ve come in contact with someone from back in the day I’ve been very happy and eager to share stories and the like. My whole outlook on the project has been very positive and I couldn’t be happier.

Yesterday while adding some detail to a couple of scenes, I happened to pull up a weather map of Northern Ireland, and I filled with a sense of dread, like being trapped with no way out – utter hopelessness. Not all that strong and not very long lasting, which is good, but it made me wonder. The truth is that’s how I felt back there, back then, much of the time. I just didn’t expect to get hit with that after all these years, especially given how the project has been going thus far.

Work continues. I thought I was going to let the creative engine idle as I wait for some reviews to come back but just had to add some additional “flavor”. Nothing huge, just a bit of tweaking of a rugby scene.

Thinking about whether I missed something or maybe did I put in too much? Hard question to answer. I’ll know more when I get back to the manuscript.

I’ve stepped back for a bit to let the dust settle. Gives me a chance to reflect on where I’m at in the process.

Thinking a lot about final edits.
