Well, I guess it’s safe to say I’m not in final draft anymore, since I’m editing again. But this is a good thing, really. I’m not just fixing small nits – I’m finding ways to enrich the story by cutting fat here and adding meat there. It’s all to do with relevance and detail – am I getting my point across the best way I can?
I’m seeing the manuscript through new eyes, so to speak, now that I’ve let it sit and simmer for a while. Exciting times!
By yesterday I’d added an extra thousand words. Today, however, I’ve cut out almost half that many from different areas, and still cutting. Getting tighter all the time.
